~Black Fly Festival 2014 ~ Adamant, Vermont!

They even got to be in the parade! Hillary and Ava put smiles on for this and good wave for everyone along the way!

Such a great day....and wonderful weather!!!!

The 2014 Black Fly Fashion Show Contestants!

Poem:

Hillary Harris came flying straight from a bog around Middle Tennessee; this little Black Fly flew north to Sodom Pond to flee.

She sports the strong black wings with a shimmer of glitter, for we all know black flies can be a little bitter.

She has the large black eyes so she can really see- right where to bite her victim- on bare knee.

Oh, and don’t bother with the net upon the face, this little fly can find you no matter what the case!

With her little wand in hand, she could cure any bite, but be careful what you wish for, she can turn day into night!

With today’s festival under hand, I knew my senses told me  just the right place to land.

The Adamant Store was such the perfect place to settle, it has a pond, a festival, and today’s open kettle.

~ Spring Days~

Yesterday we spent much of the day around the house and pitched some ball at Ludlow Park. We also went for a little run around the town. We all voted and Hillary's vote won- the street run it was!

Today I went by and got my inspection sticker .....you gotta get an inspection here! Then, Hillary and I went to Rutland to visit Gary. We met Jim, his co-worker, a Vermont native and has met all the senators- like Bernie Sanders and also Former Gov. Kunin. Well, just perhaps maybe we will! It was a beautiful spring like day here.....I've decided that May showers bring June flowers....for Vermont! The afternoon it started to become cloudy. Before that I snapped a picture of just how beautiful the clouds were...this was one of the roads I was lost on....I typically turn around a lot now a days....wait, I did that in Tennessee, too!  :)   We had lunch at Rumanto's pizza - a New York style of pizza in Rutland- very good! Cooper's game was rained out in Bellows Falls and Brock's game was still on .....to Hanover, New Hampshire. Hillary, Coop, and I ran over to the Ludlow Farmers' Market for a burrito and test tasting of all the goodies! They had some new booths tonight.....fresh blueberries, Maine Lobster, and a Veal stand....(oh me).
On our run...I liked the architecture of this house/church. That style is typical of Ludlow.

I liked this quote.....

Look Mama...he misses you! He doesn't know how to react to staying behind closed bars!!!!

My drive before the rain......

Farmer's Market

Cooper being okay with this umbrella since his alternative was to be soaked! Funny how that works! Hillary has a Ginger Snap!

~Cold & Rainy, but business accomplished!~

47 degrees this morning -rainy and cloudy...it may be one of those winters like we have in spring around TN , but I'm not sure which one it would be! Got my license today! Dropped off my application at Elm Hill Primary, and Hillary got a grand tour! Kids go outside unless it is below 10 degrees!!! Also, they have a wonderful art program. I also thought it was kind of neat they had several men that taught at primary levels. Kids fish for free in VT if under 15- saw this at the place Vermont-  DMV.

Boxing Club......

Stopped by Springfield library to make some copies.....read a book below while we were there.....

Hillary and I took a time out running errands to visit this little spot in downtown Ludlow- called the Pot Belly! Great spot!

Here we are an "ussie"not a selfie...lol

We skyped later with both grandmothers....NANA & GRAMMY! We love you and miss you!!!!!

~Busted Lip, park, & baseball~

Went to Ludlow park today. It was nice weather and a beautiful day! I made the kids run a mile each! Pictured here are Hillary and Brock.

Cooper on his mile run.

Cooper's lip after he dove for the ball.

Hillary on slide.

This is the skate park located in Ludlow. There is always someone skating there most any time of the day.

Ha. They got along well enough to play on some playground equipment!

This afternoon our games were all rained out. It rained so much that it hailed pretty badly for a lengthy period. We met Joe and rode around trying to look at some homes in the Springfield area. Afterwards, we stopped by his house to visit and the kids played. It cooled off a lot after the rain this evening.

Memorial Day

Hillary, Ava, and Giles- street side - in Springfield.
Enjoyed a parade today......a run with a new friend, Morgan, and Hillary enjoyed a fun play date with Ava.

A young man drove this float in honor of his grandfather...such a compassionate and serving deed!

On town steps of local furniture story to watch parade. Brock - hating to be up so early :) Cooper not caring.....Hillary loving every minute of it :)

Townspeople speech

Iconic picture in distance is the church building- kind of known architecture in Ludlow.

Lilacs are in full bloom. Hillary found one as we were walking over the bridge.

~Memorial Day Weekend~

Friday evening was rainy, and we all got ready and went to New Hampshire to find a good Mexican place to eat. We ended up at a place called Revolution Cantina. It was pretty good. It was decorated with skulls and lots of other art- very contemporary modern with a Latin-Mexican flair.

Saturday we slept in and then tried to find a little tag sale in Londonderry and also the West River Farmers'  Market....but we were too late! So, we went to North Springfield and practiced baseball with the kids. Later, we rode into to Springfield and had lunch with the kids at 371. We had a party pizza which I might add is the size of a table top!!!! Afterwards, I stopped by the local hardware store and bought some pots and plants to place on the porch. Hillary helped me pick all the flowers and plant them. It was sunny some of the day with frequent showers...on and off.

We played in the yard ...baseball, hiking trails, and later came in for supper and a Madea movie. Ha.
I love her humor!!!!

Sunday -
I experienced a quote a month ago by Horace Mann:

Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.

I loved the quote and it was located in front of a church called Unitarian Universalist. I had to try a church that believed in this humanity. So, this morning that is what we did. The atmosphere reminded a lot of Bon Aqua Methodist Church- also many of the people. (Kind, gentle, humanitarians)
The sermon and most of the work in the church this morning was carried out by women. The songs were a mixture of nature songs, old hymns (one my uncle Junior always loved), and some folk music. It was a nice reading of a memoir of what Memorial Day meant, art of the Vietnam Wall, sharing of joys and concerns, as well as the donation of food during the service to a local shelter. I really liked the church. My children were the only ones there, so they were less impressed with what it had to offer....but it was right up my alley. At closing, there was a poem read - a metaphor how life is much like a garden in spring....comes and goes. A lady in the congregation was even from Fort Campbell KY - what a small world.

pretty cool affirmation for humankind.....

We were kindly invited to Joe's parents, Gary's Athletic Director at Springfield, for a cookout. Hillary especially loved swimming with Ava, Joe and Morgan's little girl. They also have a little boy, Giles, which I think loves cars as much as Cooper did at his age! We met a lot of very nice people at the cookout, even a family similar to ours, but from Texas. Joe's mom had an ingredient on her counter I had not seen since I was in high school trying to search for it with Stephanie Shelton- Adobe flavoring!  It was a nice time had by all! Hillary fell in the pool on the way out and Cooper and Brock managed to fall onto a wooden fence while there and break it in half. Yes, this is why we probably need to stay at our house - and keep them from mixing too much!
Cooper and Hillary swimming
Hillary and Ava- they enjoyed playing so much today!

Sunday afternoon we went to the Ludlow Ballparks - Home of the Presidents. The girls softball team is called the Lady Presidents. The boys pitched and hit and Hillary and I walked around. It was a very pretty park and enjoyable afternoon. I think the weather is just perfect here today!

Tomorrow we will go to our first Memorial Day Parade on the town green of Ludlow! Pictures to follow! All the little towns here have Memorial Day parades......  :)
